There have been problems separating MOSH and MOAH (Mineral oil aromatic hydrocarbons) but some methods have been described for the analysing of different Mineral oil Hydrocarbons (MOH).

Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR) has developed a method development kit for mineral oil including MOSH.Further, BfR in collaboration with Official Food Control Authority of the Canton of Zürich has developed method to confirm content of MOSH and other mineral oils in food contact material for dry food and packaging materials, using solid phase extraction and GC-FID, the method is published as a report, as well as in publication [file:///C:/Users/vordisb/Desktop/Development%20of%20a%20manual%20method%20for%20the%20determination%20of%20mineral%20oil%20in%20foods%20and%20paperboard (2)]

Solid phase extraction (SPE) method followed by GC-FID analysing has been developed for determination of MOSH in vegetable oils (3), an SPE method has also been used for confirmation of MOSH and MOAH in cardboard and dry food (4). Pressurized liquid extraction (PLE) has been described for determination of MOSH and MOAH in cardboard and paper used for food packaging (5).
