Gentamcin (CAS 1403-66-3) belongs to the group of aminoglycosides. Gentamincin has an antimicrobial functionality and consist of a polar organic base. Use of gentamicin antimicrobial has declined because of resistance, particularly in the older drugs, and problems with toxicity, but they still remain important in the treatment of serious gram-negative infections in animals. Gentamicin is a common source of antimicrobioal residue in food of animal origin and fruit trees.
